Stokes Records Big Win In Super Pro!
(Idalou, TX) Lubbock Dragway was the happen’ place to be on Saturday, June
12th. Dennis Bernard, track owner and manager, bumped up the purse to kick
off the summer, and the racers were lined up at the gate.
Larry Stokes (Plainview, TX) was unstoppable in his American Made `67 Camaro
and scored his first win of the season to take home $2,000 in Super Pro.
Stokes’ skilled reaction times got him into the finals where Aaron Wilson
(Lockney, TX) and his wheel standing `78 Malibu turned on the red bulb.
Charles York and Michael Kiser, both from Levelland, TX. , outlasted the
rest of the field for the class semis.
In Sportsman, Jerry Cottrell (Lubbock, TX) notched his second victory and
$750 pay day. Runner-up Jimmie Anderson (Lubbock, TX) fouled with a
heartbreaking -.007 in his `50 Willis Jeep. Zach Kidd (Levelland, TX) and
Chad Griffith (Slaton, TX) rounded out the top four spots.
Hard-hitting Brad Gore (Levelland, TX) repeated in Modified. In the finals
Gore coupled .020 and 11.609 (11.59) to take the stripe over Gregg Davis’
(Olton, TX) `75 Duster. Alfred Hernandez (Sundown, TX) and Freddie Ybarra
III (Lorenzo, TX) were the class semis.
In Street Class, David Warshauer (Lubbock, TX) also repeated, but wheeled a
different Camaro to the winner's circle. In the finals, Warshauer’s .030 and
10.733 (10.72) gave him the advantage to edge out points leader Stacy
Acevedo (Wolfforth, TX) in her `96 Mustang. Lyndan Devin (Plainview, TX) in
his `70 Fairlane was the lone semi.
Points leader Sonjia Cortez (Plainview, TX) used a .070 light and 9.457
(9.43) to win the Jr. Dragster title over rival Nicole Sexton (Lubbock, TX).
Kallie Ferguson (Hereford, TX) and Jack Humphrey (Lubbock, TX) piloted their
dragsters to the semis.
