Even With the Threat of Rain in the Air, Lubbock Dragway Raced on.
(Idalou, TX)
Roy Breshers (Lubbock, TX.) took top honors and pocketed the
biggest purse of the night in Sportsman. Breshers, in his `69 Camaro, nailed
a .002 light and then ran an 11.29(11.22) to edge out Casey Lambert's
(Lockney, TX.)pavement ripping `79 Camaro. Richard Marmolejo (Lubbock, TX.)
was the lone
semi.
In Super Pro, Aaron Wilson (Lockney, TX) and his crowd pleasing `78 Malibu
made his appearance in the Precision Auto Winner's Circle. Plainview's
representatives were impressive with Mike Belk capturing the runner-up spot
while previous winner Larry Stokes and Layton Garrett were the
semi-finalists.
With a starting line advantage Alfonso Acevedo Jr (Wolfforth, TX.) was able
to cruise his `69 Mustang to victory over Ricky Vasquez (Lockney, TX.) in
Modified. Hard-hitting Jerry Cottrell (Lubbock, TX.) finished third.
Lyndan Devin (Plainview, TX.) in his `70 Fairlane and Josie Cavazos (Smyer,TX.) in her 70 c-10 raced heads up for the Street title. Devin was able to
get the upper hand on the tree to secure his place in the Precision Auto
Winner's Circle. Jeff Woods was the semi.
Different race day but with the same result in the Jr. Dragster class. Once
again the Cortez family would celebrate, as Sonjia (Plainview, TX.) took the
Jr. Dragster honors. Kacy Collier (New Deal, TX.) was able to defeat Sara
Cortez (Plainview, TX.) in the semis to be runner-up.
In the Motorcycle class, we have a new winner with Billy Stephens and his
9-second Drag Bike.
