(Idalou, TX) Seasons Last Points Race
Lubbock Dragway finished up their last
points race with a bang.
Super Pro- Mike Belk
(Plainview, Tx.) finished the season with a vengeance in his `84 Duster by
defeating Larry Stokes (Plainview, Tx.) in his `67 Camaro. Belk had the
lesser of two evils in a double break out. Eldon Russ (Clovis, N.M.) was the
class semi. Car trouble during the season kept Belk from having a shot at
the Class title.
Sportsman- Coy Franks
(Flomot, Tx.) cut the tree down in the finals and wheeled his `82 Firebird
to victory over Chad Guthrie (Floydada, Tx.) with a .006 light and a 9.588
(9.56) to the `73 Nova’s .072 light and 10.074 (10.09). In the semis, Gregg
Davis (Olton, Tx.) suffered a heart breakin’ loss to Franks .013 light
advantage to Davis’ .067 and a 12.350 (12.35).
Modified- Jerry
Cottrell (Lubbock, Tx.) owner of a 2004 Wally trophy finished the season
with win number four aboard his `72 Nova.
Street- Street class
was a preview of what’ s to come in the `05 season. Freddie Ybarra III
(Lorenzo, Tx.) made his first appearance of the season in the Precision Auto
Winners Circle. Ybarra in his `67 Camaro broke out by .012 to edge out
newcomer Laura Cavazos (Smyer, Tx.) in her `01 Chevy PU who broke out by
.024. Diana Stevens (Lubbock, Tx.) was also a newcomer and piloted her v8
Mazda to a third place finish.
Jr. Dragster-Keiri Ferguson’s
(Hereford, Tx.) extraordinary .001 light and a 9.444 (9.37) was enough to
seal the deal over Beth Skelton’s (Hereford, Tx.) .094 light and 12.64
(12.56). Trent Womack (Sundown, Tx.) fought through the tough competitive
field to finish in the top three.
