Cy Hill (Lubbock, TX.) won the Super Pro title during the latest race at Lubbock Dragway. Hill coasted his `92 Camaro to victory over Danny York (Levelland, TX.) whose 11.027 (11.02) was negated by a red-light start. In the semis, Hill posted a .025 light and a 8.825(8.81) to beat Charles York who also has a win this season.
Coy Franks (Flomot, TX.) kept his strangle hold on first place in the Sportsman points race by defeating Jerry Cottrell (Lubbock, TX.) in the finals. In the semis, Franks in his `82 Firebird coupled a .014 light with a 9.876 (9.84) retiring Lawrence Sanders run, while Cottrell in his `72 Nova bested Gary Metcalf with a .035 light and a 11.117 (11.08)
In Modified, Alfred Hernandez (Sundown, TX.) in his `73 Duster picked up his third win in a row. John Pichla and his `80 Camaro made his second-straight finals appearance but had to settle for second after running a 12.927 (12.93). Gregg Davis, `04 Class Champ, was the lone semi-finalist.
Josie Cavazos (Smyer, TX) and her Corvette made a repeat appearance in the finals in Street, but this time she faced-off with none other than her own daughter, Laura Cavazos (Smyer, TX.). Josie, who had educated Laura on the dangers of illegal street racing, driving only bow-ties, and how to cut down a tree was defeated by Laura when she showed her skills, wheeling her `01 Chevy P.U. to her first career win. Alfonso Acevedo, Jr. and Chris Flen were the class semis.
In Junior Dragster, Heath Kiser (Levelland, TX.) was victorious for the second time this season when he upset points leader Sara Cortez (Plainview, TX.) in the finals. Starring in the semis were Kevin Hughes and Jack Humphrey.
