Larry
Stokes (Plainview, Tx.) powered his `67 Camaro to victory over
Alan Bracey in his (Lubbock, Tx.) `67 Camaro in Super pro during the latest round of bracket competition at Lubbock Dragway. It was a nail-biter at the stripe after Stokes paired a.007 light with an 11.340 (11.30) to Bracey's .018 light and 11.243 (11.20). Charles York and Donnie Jones were the class semis.
In
Sportsman, Don Jones (Lubbock. Tx.) in his flamed `72 Nova
edged-out Gary Metcalf's (Lubbock, Tx.) `67 Dodge to take his
first win of the season. B.J. Cruz and Billy Dubois were the
semifinalists.
Don
Sexton (Lubbock, Tx.) in his `69 Camaro had a slight advantage on
the tree, but points leader Braden Gore (Levelland, Tx.) was right on his dial to wheel his `84 Chevy P.U. to the Precision Auto Repair winners circle. Nathan Lozano in his `02 Camaro finished in the third spot.
It
was an all women's final in Street, with Laura Cavazos (Smyer, Tx.)
taking top honors for her second straight win. Cavazos in her `01
Chevy P.U. had a better reaction to defeat class leader Stacy
Acevedo (Wolfforth, Tx.) in her '96 Stang. Sabrina Jones in her
`67 Camaro was the lone-semi.
Morgan
Humphrey of Lubbock, TX won the finals of Jr. Dragster.(Portales, N.M.), captured the prestigious NHRA Jr. Dragster Challenge award at
Lubbock Dragway.
Sonjia
Cortez (14-18 yrs) ran a 9.219 (9.19) to push runner-up Ashley Shipley to a
break-out 10.903 (11.03).
Mark
Hughes (10-13 yrs) got the hole shot to hold off Keri Ferguson's heart-breaking 8.010 (8.01) run.
Kevin
Hughes (8-9 yrs.) emerged victorious after Jack Humphrey's was too quick 12.739 (12.80).
