Lubbock Dragway opened its gates April 7, 2007 to its 35th year in operation and 25th under owner Dennis “The Menace” Barnard.  In this day and age where one track opens and several close, Barnard credits his success to great sponsors, racers support, and loyal fan and community participation.  With the long winter and early April Showers, racers were left wondering whether to keep their slicks or trade them in on all terrain tires, but finally the skies cleared.

In Super Pro, Mike Barnes in his wheel standing `78 Malibu coupled a .011 light and a 10.217 (10.20) to edge out the 7 second dragster of Rusty Rose.  Jeremy Smith rounded out the top three.

Les Gary, driving an `87 Camaro, posted a less offensive 9.739 (9.75) to beat Brad Gore’s 13.550 (13.58) in a double-breakout Sportsman final.  Cody Streety was the lone semi.

In Modified, double Dusters and another double-breakout with Gregg Davis recording a 12.305 (12.32) with his `75 Duster to top Alfred Hernandez’s `73 Duster, which ran a 13.044 (13.08).  Travis Waggoner, 2006 Modified Class Champ, came in third.
It was an all Ford Finals in Street with Fernando Cruz in his `89 Mustang coming out victorious.  The `69 Mustang of Alfonso Acevedo Jr. settled for second after posting a .029 light and a 14.960 (14.90) to Cruz’s .021 and a 13.912 (13.90).  Sharon Froman, `07 Mustang, and Lyndan Devin, `70 Fairlane, were the class semi-finalists.

In the finals of Jr. Dragster, Dakota Kiser ran a 7.604 (7.58) to defeat 2006 Class Champion, Mica Shipley whose dragster fell off to post an 8.216 (8.07).  Ashley Shipley and Brandon Brewer advanced to the semis.

Kevin Hendley was the Diesel class winner.
