It was the first night of racing at Lubbock Dragway, and it was amazing. Great car count, fierce competition, weather in the high 60s, and superb track conditions or as the racers say " The track Hooooked!".
Jeremy Melton in his Dragster was dialed in all night, and it paid in Super Pro with a 7.970 (7.97) at 167.91. Roy Lozano Jr. cut the tree down in every round but went red to runner-up. Chris Bandy was the lone semi.
In Sportsman, Linda Lamb collected the biggest check of the night when she powered her `86 Trans Am with a 9.462 (9.38) victory over Sammy Mora. Kenny Wenzel and Brad Gore were the semifinalists.
Alfred Hernandez in his `73 Duster picked up his second straight win in Modified. Stacy Acevedo in her `96 Mustang had the advantage at the Tree but went 15.339 (15.34) at the stripe. Veteran racer Jimmie Anderson in his `50 Willis Jeep took third.
In Street, newcomer Mike Southard and his `72 Camaro cut a .021 light against Alfonso Acevedo, Jr.'s .027 and ran a 14.942 (14.92) to beat Acevedo's 14.768 (14.79) for the win. Carl Johnson was the class semi.
In Jr. Dragster, a better reaction from hard-hitting Sara Cortez was the difference at the finish line when Regan Webb crossed second with a 8.395 (8.39). Ashley Shipley finished in the top three.
