No better place to be than
Lubbock Dragway in July. The first of the month fans were
treated to Jet Cars making side by side 280 m.p.h. blasts, then
weeks later Southwest Superchargers. |
With
Sportsman having the biggest car count and more than its fair
share of heavy hitters, Grace Skelton managed to race under the
radar all season to take the points lead and dominated the
evening to clinch her very first victory. With a starting line
advantage, Skelton powered her `69 Camaro to an 11.377 (11.35)
to defeat Ricky Pope’s `70 Monte Carlo who ran a closer 11.245
(11.23). |
In
Street Class finals, Beau Novak and his `95 Camaro redeemed
their previous runner-up finish with a 13.965 (13.96) run to
edge out Raymond Winston’s break-out pass of 16.011 (16.25).
Tyson Grant and Roger Grant were the class semi-finalists.
|
Brody
Miller in his `68 Camaro notched his second straight win in
Modified when Richard Marmolejo’s had car trouble and could not
make the class call. Alfred Hernandez and Nicole Sexton were the
class semis. |
With
Camaros in every class final and each taking the titles, who
could possibly stand in the way of the “American Made” `67
Camaro of Larry Stokes? How about the 2006 King of the Track,
Mike Belk. In the Super Pro finals, Belk in his `84 Duster
committed the lesser foul 9.930 (9.94) to Stokes stellar .006
light and heart breaking 11.209 (11.22). In the semis, Stokes
coupled a .006 light and an 11.229 (11.22) to beat Cy Hill’s
.024 light and 8.712 (8.71). |
