Racers showed their support over the Memorial Day weekend at Lubbock Dragway’s season opener. Track owner and operator, Dennis Barnard, apologized for the three month delay but made a big investment for the future of it’s NHRA racers and fans with 1320 plus feet of concrete racing surface.
In Pro Electronics, Cy Hill was the O’Reilly’s Pro Classic big money winner. Hill in his `92 Camaro cut a .005 and ran a 11.597 (11.59) to defeat Jeremy Melton. Micah Neves was the lone semi.
Pro No-Electronics had the biggest car count of the night and when the tire smoke cleared from Kevin Bracey’s Dart, he was left holding the purse. Runner-up Rodney Pope used his loaner car to defeat Don Mandrell, owner of the loaner car, in the semis. Jack Robnett was the other semi.
In Pro Modified, Bracey pulled double duty, but fell victim to Travis Waggoner’s 4-speed `68 Mustang. Waggoner coupled a .060 light and a 11.733 (11.74) run for the win. Beau Novak was the lone semi.
Street winner, Beau Novak also doubled-up in classes and used a starting line advantage with a 14.007 (14.00) run. He wheeled his `95 Camaro to the Tuff Shed Winner’s Circle over new comer T. J. Devin. Lyndan Devin and John Wood were the class semis.

The Quick-8 Bonus competed in an 1/8 mile run-off in their respective classes for free stimulus cash. In Pro Electronics, Glen Sutton broke out by .001 to give Mike Barnes the win. Gary Metcalf ran a 7.238 (7.23) to edge out Ricky Pope in Pro No-Electronics. Brad Fetter committed the lesser foul on a double-breakout for the Pro Modified win over Ron Gober.
